Schedule Changes and Vacation Time (3/25)

In addition to some event preparation and regular maintenance, I was able to learn some more about how scheduling conflicts and things like vacation time work at the Hall of Fame Village. For example, since the Hall of Fame Village includes a multi-field, multi-purpose Sports Complex, that can mean some uncertain scheduling when it comes to hosting events or tournaments on the Sports Complex fields. This occurred when a tournament that was scheduled to begin on 3/25 decided to cancel their weekend due to poor weather conditions. This changed how the employees who spend the majority of their time at the Sports Complex were scheduled. On tournament or other event weekends, Sports Complex employees typically spend most or all of their time at the fields to make sure everything is running smoothly. When tournaments are canceled, those employees suddenly have a few days with little or no work to be done. Most of these employees are salaried, so the loss of hours has only the effect of granting them some time to rest or catch up on work before the next event.

In addition to event cancellations, I was able to speak with a couple of employees that are planning vacation time in the next week. These employees shared that they plan to not answer any work phone calls unless they are emergencies, and everyone else within the department were eager to encourage that decision. It is refreshing to work in a place in which coworkers are encouraging other coworkers to take valuable time off and not worry about what is happening at the Stadium.
