Something Frustrating (4/18)

One of the most frustrating things about this internship has been seeing how some of the different departments interact with each other. There are few departments that interact by seeking to help each other without any kind of tension. The events department and operations department seem to be the two groups that get along the best and are willing to help each other with their required tasks. This seems to be largely due to both groups being present in the same space almost every day, while the other departments are located in other buildings and are rarely sharing the same physical space. The departments located in the office buildings do not always seem to understand what it takes to operate the stadium and perform the event tasks, so there seems to be a communicational disconnect. The frustration from the operations side of the organization has been clear to me from the beginning of my experience and hasn’t had much change in that time. If I had any role to come to a more common ground, I would recommend the different departments share space more often and particularly try to come to a better understanding of what each group needs to operate effectively. As I mentioned in a previous post, this has also been made clear in witnessing some of the hiring practices of the operations department. The operations team needs more hands on deck and has made that clear to the human resources department, but for some reason, the hiring process has not advanced past those initial conversations.
