As the weather starts to warm up, we are beginning to plan and prepare for some upcoming spring events. Most of this process is somewhat held up due to some unclear budget restrictions. However, I was able to sit in on a planning session regarding power washing different areas of the roof to prepare for Thirsty Thursdays. Additionally, we spent a large portion of this day emptying a storage room of various tables, chairs, and couches that will be used during the Thirsty Thursday events. While this was not an incredibly exciting day, it was useful to have another experience to understand that physical work is necessary to make any of these events happen. This is going to be helpful to keep in mind, especially if I am to advance to a position of leadership and management and do less of the actual work myself.

It has also been helpful to sit through different meetings and make notes of what seems to be most helpful or the mark of a good meeting. The most important takeaway I have gained from this has been to ensure that meetings are actionable and have some variable that is measurable. Not only does this help the team to accomplish more goals, but it also makes the meetings feel like a worthwhile use of time. Complaints of too many pointless meetings are common in any workplace, so if I should ever get to a leadership position one of my focuses would be to create actionable, measurable meetings to ensure we are using our time wisely and effectively.
